Meet Dr. Tom Van Ornum

Dr. Tom Van Ornum received his Doctor of Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Science in Health Studies degrees from Boston University. He has worked with athletes of all ages, including the NFL, MLB, NBA, UFC, performing arts, and military special forces, as well as nationally ranked runners, triathletes, and weightlifters.

While growing up in New York’s scenic mid-Hudson Valley, he developed a passion for basketball and weightlifting. In college, he began competing in Olympic weightlifting. After a wrist injury that required two surgeries, Dr. Tom spent several frustrating years sidelined from his sports rehabilitating his wrist. Fortunately, since this occurred during his doctoral studies in Boston, he benefitted from some of the best medical care in the country, cementing his perspective that rehabilitation providers have to appreciate multiple disciplines and have a holistic approach to treatment to achieve optimum results.

Dr. Tom pulls from a variety of disciplines when treating pain/dysfunction and understands that “everything is connected.” The foundations of his practice integrate a recognition that pain, stress and performance are outputs of the brain and that the overall well-being of a person depends on an optimal interaction with his or her environment. He strives to eliminate pain and maximize multidimensional movement in everyone he works with.

Dr. Tom is one of only a few hundred providers in the country with the CMTPT certification, which are advanced credentials for dry needling for muscle, joint, and nerve pain. He has also received extensive training in various forms of biomechanical/movement examinations, joint manipulations, and soft tissue mobilizations. He has multiple articles published in national publications and regularly consults for numerous companies across the country on health, wellness, and injury prevention.
