I love the idea of being a well-rounded athlete. When I used to box, there was always something I needed to work on and it is no different with CrossFit. With CrossFit’s definition of fitness being the ability to move your body well, move external objects, and to do both across various lengths of time- I enjoy the challenge of pursuing a well-rounded program. Doing CrossFit also gives you a community of people that encourage and support each other in the journey of self-mastery and that is what keeps me coming back.

It is easy to hop into a gym and workout and not see any results. It is even easier to hop in a gym and not know how to define results. Our self-perception can be like looking at a carnival mirror (we think we are too fit, or we think that we are never going to be fit enough) and we need the help of a coach. I like providing members direction and assistance in the gym. If people can say, ‘I may not be as strong as I want to be, but I am not as weak as I once was.’ that makes me a successful coach.

I love CrossFit because of the availability and call to fitness for so many different skill levels of so many different people. The community keeps people coming back, and the workouts keep everyone on their toes. CrossFit also allows me to participate in all of the activities I enjoy at a higher level of physical prowess.

I love coaching CrossFit, because I enjoy teaching people new skills and techniques. There is so much innovation and so much to learn, not only for athletes, but for us as coaches as well. I enjoy being around like minded people who curse, lift heavy, sweat, and always finish what they start.

I am a licensed Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant. I earned my CrossFit Level one certification in October of 2016 and have enjoyed every moment of being a coach and an athlete as it has given me the opportunity to really relate and apply CrossFit wholly because I’m privy to both sides of the playing field.  I love the atmosphere and the community connection CrossFit brings to my life and to the athletes around me. I enjoy seeing and helping people reach their goals and their full potential physically, mentally, and emotionally.

My love for Crossfit has transformed not just my body but my whole life. It changed my eating habits, my self-confidence, even my outlook on life. It’s taught me more about myself in a short amount of time than I imagined possible, and allowed me to embrace so many elements of life. I used to only care about ‘losing weight’ – now I am focused on being stronger, faster and living life to the fullest.

I consider myself both a coach and a student in Crossfit. I love to teach people and help them accomplish their goals. At the same time there is always something new I can learn, learn better or master a technique. I also really enjoy the nature of Crossfit. It is competitive and provides team camaraderie unlike anything I have experienced in the traditional fitness industry.

I CrossFit honestly because it’s fun. It’s fun to be pushed by the other members, its fun to push yourself to the limit and most importantly it’s fun to watch yourself get stronger each week. I used to do the old gym routine but it got stale quick. CrossFit allows zero room for muscle memory and is constantly challenging you day in and day out. Also, it allows me to maintain my unhealthy eating habits.

I love to Coach mainly because our community is like a family. I know each and every member personally and they allow me to push them to new limits. Too see the face of someone who PR’s or nails a muscle up for the first time is more exciting to me than anything else.

Growing up playing competitive sports, I have always been a competitor. After playing Division 1 lacrosse at University of Delaware, I wanted to continue to train as an elite athlete, but was missing the competitive edge that I would get from lacrosse. CrossFit allows me to push myself to the training limit, all the while competing against others.

But most importantly, I CrossFit because of the discipline it takes to progress. Whether it’s getting up at 5am to train, learning a new movement, perfecting technique, eating clean, or following a program, all of the above establish a sense of structure in my life. I use CrossFit as a foundation for daily mental stability. Training before the sun is up every morning allows me to clear my mind, set the tone for the day, and accomplish something that most don’t before a typical work day. There is no end to CrossFit – there is always something you can get better at – and I translate that mentality into daily life. At work, at home, within relationships, there is always something you can do to just be BETTER.

0530 class. You gotta have some nuts and bolts loose to wake up every morning at 5am, come in, and get after it. I am personally motivated each and every morning that I coach the 0530 class. Seeing CFHS members come in and just ready to attack their day is a feeling that revs my engine. The sense of determination and drive the morning class has is truly inspirational. The best part is that I get to help people on a daily basis lead a healthier life. Advising on functional movements for life, nutrition, lifestyle, or coffee, it is a rewarding feeling to know that someone has the ability to better their life on a daily basis.

I started CrossFit in the summer of 2013; it immediately reinvigorated my competitive spirit.  I can say with complete sincerity, that I love the fact that I’m challenged to push myself physically and mentally every day.  I aspire to become better every day.  I know that I’m nowhere close to realizing my potential.

Yes, my nickname is “Beast”.  It was given to me; it’s not self-proclaimed.  Though, the savagery courses through my veins.  That’s why I work out, so as not to destroy the world.  When I’m not working or working out, you can find me on the blacktop playing basketball, in the studio recording music (I’m a self-taught metal guitarist), or pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors (www.abwod.com).

Since coaching the Level 1 classes, I have a tremendous opportunity to follow athletes on their journeys toward physical achievement from the very start.  Contributing to their success through encouragement and training is certainly rewarding.  I long to extract the beasts within!
